Yes you did. Now I'm waiting on new locking washers for the fork pins to arrive in the mail. & figure out what removes fresh "Honda bond4" off the cases.

Perhaps Permatex gasket remover.
Works for me. Although it wasn't Hondabond.

I got it all back together checking shift functionality along the way. it works fine UNTIL i put the side cover on. the shift shaft has been snapped and rewelded by the previous owner. it is not concentric (by atleast .040", ~1mm) and i suspect that as it rotates it binds into the case hole its meant to spin in. I bought another assembly on ebay and will try that.

makes me wonder what the heck they did to this bike while that bracket was on upside down. i suspect someone rode it anyway just jamming away at the shifter. Im hoping nothing else is badly worn as well. the pins on the drum didnt look bad but i havent a clue what new looks like either.

No other way to get it in without taking it all apart again, huh?

I followed fiches, took pictures before tear down to follow when I put it together again. In fact, I remember that I couldn't get the retainer in the other way so it "made sense" that it fit on the bottom side.

If i i had to correct the issue again i would drain the bike and flip the thing over rather than pull the motor. it really wasnt that bad but it is a bummer.
