I've had a good week. I learned about a hook made of wire designed to retain my brake cable and provide a mounting hook for my return spring. I also found this photo in my Honda CL77 owners manual on page #20 - it shows the spring with the long straight section to the top - opposite of the photo above.

OK, Gordon and LM; you've shamed me (:o) I just reversed my spring configuration so the long end is at the top. This should also lower the bike's center of gravity.
