cl77 leaking tank questions.

ok, if I por15 the tank, what do you do with the petcock? How do you remove it so it does not get plugged up? The tank apparently has pin holes along the bottom. Thanks, Bill

Also need gas tank bolt and nut, and complete seat bolts, nuts, and rubber assembley for this bike.

When doing the final coating with POR 15 I used wooden dowels in the the petcock holes. They keep the sealer from leaking out and can easily be removed without disturbing the treads. BTW the POR 15 is the best product out there. Make sure you let it completely cure and it is good forever.

Sorry Bill,

I always remove the petcock during the entire procedure. It is a good time to go ahead and install a rebuild kit in it while the tank is curing.

ok. thanks for the reply.. but back to the original question. How does one remove the petcock on a cl77? Does it unscrew? or is there a nut or fitting on it?


I don't see anything in the parts manual that shows this.. Sorry to be so dense. Bill

Bill,

Unscrew the bottom of the petcock. (It is the bell shaped area with the raised dome nut.) Pull out the brass strainer and o ring to expose the two phillips head screws securing the petcock to the tank base. Loosen and you are good to go.

UNSCREW FUEL STRAINER CUP FROM PETCOCK BODY, REMOVE FILTER SCREEN, PEER UP ON BOTTOM OF PETCOCK. WAHLA TWO PHILLIPS SCREEWS. CAREFULL EVERY OLD TANK I HAVE REMOVED THEM FROM REQUIRED JUST THE RIGHT COMBINATION OF WORDS BEING CHANTED OVER AND OVER.
