CB77 aftermarket blinker/winker relay issue

Post by ccosta21 » Tue Aug 14, 2012 4:26 pm

So it all started by me wanting to put aftermarket blinkers on my 1966 CB77. When I bought the bike it came with some blinkers so I just had to buy a universal relay. I wired it all up following the wiring diagram of a CA77.

All blinkers worked beautifully for a few rides until I had my headlight on and used the left blinker. They both stopped working, left front and back. So I just had the right blinkers. The next short ride I had the headlight on again and used the right blinker and that stopped working. Now I have no blinkers but everything else works just fine (Thankfully).

I checked the ground to the relay and its' fine. I used my volt meter and when I connect the battery negative to the blinker switch it makes the relay click but no blinkers. When I connect the relay power prong to the battery negative the relay clicks but no blinkers. (It makes the volts go up and down on the meter.) Without that connection made by the volt meter the relay doesn't click when I turn the blinker switch on. I know I'm not using the volt meter right but its the only thing I could think of to test it. I don't know how to check if the inline fuse is bad but if it was, wouldn't that make other things not work? It seems like i'm missing something really simple here. I think the bike is telling me to forget the blinker idea...
