CB72 woes - Crank case

CB72 woes - Crank case

An inherited "project" continues to provide surprises. This time it is the crank case. The knock pin appears to have been forced into the crank case and pushed out through the aluminium. Any one any ideas why this would have occurred and if the damage is likely to be critical once I get the pin out that is.

The outer race of the crank bearing wasn't indexed so the hole matched the pin location.
Then the cases were put together.
Tap the pin BACK INTO the hole just enough to allow the lose piece to be J.B. Welded in place.
Add a little to the area around where the piece came loose. ....................lm

Many thanks. J B Weld and Q Bond are worth their weight in - well metal!
Now does any one know if, or where or how I can repair a gear fork?

The list keeps on growing :-)

My wife says somewhere around $20.00 US.
I recommend a member of this forum "G" or others near you to get that part.
That said as I looked at the pics you offer I (speaking streight as I do) recommend you get another bike for parts then use your engine and frame. ....................lm

Thanks too for your honesty re what I have to work with, I have to agree with you and have been looking. Had this not been a project my father in was handed back in 1968 (yes its been off the road and in bits that long) and not finished before he died and was passed to me I don't think I would have started it. That and my own son wanting to get it back on the road provided the push this year. I was told the engine had been partially rebuilt and was ready for putting back together. Surprise - surprise.

I put an advert in the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club magazine about the project and had a few replies but not yet found everything I need or discovering I need. It would be nice to get it "finished", even if its not perfect though. I have to admit I am enjoying the process and learning a lot as I go.
