I have a new in the wrapper OEM muffler for the right side to replace the rusted one. It appears that I must reuse the header pipe, but the method of connecting the two look different - header to muffler.
The one on the bike looks like the two pieces go together and there is a crush ring to join the two, but the replacement does not have a flange for a crush ring to grab and appears different.
Anyone run into this issue? The muffler on the bike is from 1964 and the replacement unit was purchased from Honda about 30 - 35 years ago and stored ever since.

OEM CA77 Muffler fitmentThank you for the response. I called my father last night after reading your reply and he thinks he remembers replacing the mufflers one time before that (mid to late 70s??), so that would make sense with the crush type muffler seal being on the bike. What is perplexing is the muffler in the package that he never used would have been purchased well after the first replacement and you mentioned it is the "older" type requiring and o-ring. I may need to locate an older left header pipe so this muffler can be installed. D- The muffler with the o-ring (two piece) is quite common and they still turn up as NOS today. It is just the luck of the draw, I think.
The one-piece systems may have been a US-only fitment. G
