Header Pipes size? Length?

My '65 Dream has the wrong mufflers on it. I believe it originally came with the 2 piece mufflers. On the right side is a One Piece CB77 muffler and pipe. The left side has a One Piece muffler and header pipe, but it does NOT have the "bolt" for the front muffler mount. That leads me to believe that it originally had the 2 piece set. So, I am planning on going to a MC meet on Sat. I would like to know what the Pipe Size is and also the "Length" of the pipe? I don't want to buy a pipe designed for a CB77. Then again... is there a difference? Do they all have a 'lip' on the engine side where the flange goes?

I am planning on using some type of aftermarket mufflers.

I realize the mufflers/pipes are somewhat confusing on these models...

The CA and CB mufflers are different. I believe the header pipes have different radius/shape in the bend. You need to study what they look like so you can identify them by sight. Too many sellers don't really know what they have. It is especially true on ebay.

You may want to look at the bikes for sale on ebay and also look at the headers listed.

There are plenty of posts about aftermarket mufflers, as well. The search function on this site should get you to those.

Thanks Conbs, I did a search for the pipes and didn't find anything. But you are right... plenty of "muffler" posts which is nice too.

Search ebay for CA77 and CB77 header. There are a dozen listings, mostly CA. Plenty of pictures to study.

Fortunately... I DO have a ONE piece left side unit on my bike. (my bike originally came with the two piece) I was just wondering the "length" of the pipe... in other words... where does a header pipe end on a two piece unit. I will look at some pics of restored bikes to see where they end and compare that to mine that I have.

Thanks for the Ebay suggestion too. I overlook that sometimes.

If I am remembering correctly, the headers are different length. I think the left side is longer and has an "L" stamped in it right at the outlet. I am pretty sure you can confirm that if you search this site.

I am not quite sure what you are trying to figure out. Aftermarket mufflers will almost certainly not have a mounting bracket in the right place. If it were me, I would just get some good headers, pick the mufflers you want and make whatever bracket you need to make them fit. Again, there are examples of success you should be able to find with a search of this site.

Yes, it helps a lot. I didn't know about any "stampings" in the pipes, so I will do a search for that. Sometimes I get too "talky".... and it gets confusing in forums. ;^) But I was planning on doing what you would do and make brackets to "fit" for both sides and use two new mufflers on my bike.
