What is wrong with this picture? What is wrong with this picture?PO must have gotten a little confused. Thought everyone would get a chuckle out of this.
I am finally getting around to the shocks as shown in the picture and need top covers. 65 CL77. Can anyone tell me if this is an early shock or not. I see there are different covers listed in the parts book for early and late. Are they interchangable?
Anybody got decent top covers for these shocks? This will be a rider, but I want it pretty when finished. I tried searching the site for an answer, but using several different search terms that included "shock covers" brought up more pages than I can look through. Conbs
I think that this is just the result of laziness not confusion. If the top shock covers are plastic it was just a simple job to cut / rip them off and you are left with just the lowers. My latest project is just the same - both sides. I have bought several sets of old shocks in the hope that I can assemble something presentable. G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72

This design shock was first used on the 1964 CL72 and all CL77's.
The tops on the SCRAMBLER shock were always steel as the plastic would be melted at the top exhaust pipe. The top for the CL72/77 in the parts book will show several colors but the part design was the same no matter the color. ..........lm
LM,
My parts book shows 6 different part numbers for the shock top covers. The first 3 are for CL77-1000001 - CL77-1011178 52460-273-000B Black 52460-273-000E Blue 52460-273-000C Red Then for CL771-11179 and after 52523-268-010B Black 52523-268-010E Blue 52523-268-010C Red If I have it right all CL77 shock covers are metal and CB77 are plastic and are also shaped differently. So, am I correct in understanding that any CL77 cover will fit my shocks?
You are correct.
The metal CB72/77 will also until they made the plastic issue as not all CB72/77 were plastic. .......lm
