Hi there,
Can anyone tell me if CA77 (1964) has the same transmission gears assey. as CB77 (1964). As far as I understood both use 305 engine.
Thanks all,
Josh
CA77 and CB77 Transmission
transmission differencesMy memory isn't fresh about this. I couldn't tell any differences inside the cases. The CA77 uses a narrower chain so the engine sprocket won't fit the CB/CL chain properly. I would think the clutches might be different. The CA77 makes 23hp and the CB makes 28.5hp (advertised). There was a problem with 2nd gear popping out. Honda made some offset "C" rings that moved the transmission shaft slightly to fix this problem. Be very carefull to check the kick start shaft for damage where the roller bearings are between the shaft and gear. When these bearings fail it takes out the gear and the shaft. It will cause the kicker to move rapidly back, stop due to the spring pressure and fly forward unfolding the kickstart arm and whack the back side of your leg. Not on the CB but on the CL and CA.

Re: CA77 and CB77 TransmissionAll gears and the 16 tooth main shaft are not the same for the (CA72/77) as the (CB/CL72/77).
The CB72/77 engines have the same trans as the CL72/77 engines. The clutch was the same for each year and was changed for all engines at the same time when upgrades were made by HONDA. The trans were the same in any of the engines whether 250 or 305.
