installing seals with split case

Post by deaddog » Thu Jul 12, 2007 9:16 am

CB77 engine
I will be reassembling my transmission soon. After reading Bill Silver Engine repair guide, I am a little un-clear about installing the seals. If I understand it right, I should have the seals in place and than put the half’s together as opposed to putting the half’s together and then driving the seals in afterwards. Any input on this is greatly appreciated.

This is always the preferable method, as you don't run the risk of shearing the outside of the seal, as you do when pressing seals into an already assembled case. The inside face is still an issue, as you want to make sure that the surface is smooth and free of burrs for the whole length the seal must travel to seat.
