Clutch plates: What's the difference?

Post by 3030vision » Tue Oct 24, 2006 2:14 pm

I'm looking at getting replacement clutch plates for my '64 CB77. Looks like I can get them shipped from RetroBikes for $50. I see them on eBay for half that:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda-6- ... enameZWDVW

I'm tempted to go with what I know (RetroBikes) but I'm curious if there's an obvious difference. I've seen some negative remarks about the Bartlett (?) plates. RetroBikes tells me their plates are Vesrah and I'm not sure about the eBay ones.

Details, details. Thanks.

Reguardless where ya get them I recommend ya get the ones with the aluminum center. They don't heat up and slip like the fiber center issue does. ...........lm

I'm guessing neither of these have the aluminum center. Do you have a source for ordering the plates you recommend?

Thanks!

Thanks! I saw that part number in an earlier post but I wasn't sure of the difference. Looks like you can get those for about 12 bucks a plate (x6 = ~$70) which is a bit more than the $50 set I was looking at from RetroBikes. However, I'll take your advice on these as you seem to have the experience!

As a side note, I think it will be easier for me to order them. One site that appears to have them for a decent price and isn't too hard to navigate (some of these bike sites are rough!) is:

http://www.servicehonda.com/parts.php (parts page)

Another is:

You might also try Ohio Cycle. He could probably tell you if he has aluminum centered disc and his prices are usually pretty good.

You know, I'd love to use Ohio Cycle as an option for more of my parts. However, since they don't take credit cards that pretty much seals the (no) deal for me. I know the credit card %ages must be annoying for a business, but to me it's a necessity for quick and easy online ordering.
