I'm standing at the bike right now and a magnet is sticking to the covers. Must be steel. Dad bought this one for me right around my 16th birthday. I'm 59 and he's 79 so we were both kids at the time. I think Ed stated that the center stand ,the rear tank mount, and the tail light bracket should be black. When we painted the bike back in 74 if I recall, we were not concerned about correctness, so we just painted whatever needed painting with whatever color we were painting at the time. The stand is still black. The tank and taillight brackets are white. I'm pretty sure that the tank mount was black and the tailight was originally white. I just do not have a picture to verify.
