Starter success!

Post by GG » Wed Oct 14, 2015 8:44 pm

Success! i want to thank everyone who helped me out. After a good fight, I finally could remove the coils. As others have indicated, at least one was completely bare. Using some tough waxed paper I have, I re-covered things and reassembled. The starter almost jumped off the bench!

Thank you very much everyone! Saved me some money, and time, and I learned some new tricks!

Finally done! Whew!

Superhawk back together with functioning starter. Whew! That was a tough one. Now I have to find a replacement bit for my hammer-driver. Other than that, I was just out a couple of weeks of riding!

Thanks again for all the help/ advice! Really appreciated. I love this forum.

I hope you put those pole bolts back in with red Loctite!

Glad you fixed the starter OK, on starters when you press the button the coils can try to twist and cut through the insulation on the poles. When checked for shorts to case on the bench they check fine. I normally varnish the windings once they are back in to hold them tight.

Mmmm. Varnishing them sounds like a better idea. Nice "winter" project - but we don't have winter in Costa Rica! We'll have to see about it. I've got some good waxed paper around them right now.
