Deglazing

Post by Brickyard » Sun Nov 08, 2015 3:40 pm

Method: I used a 3 stone flex honing tool with "medium" grit stones on a drill. It took 2 passes, 3-5 seconds each. Before the passes, I lubed the crap out of the sleeves with wd-40.

LM,

Unfortunately, because you have AT&T, you'll only be able to see 3 gigabytes per month, so I have to stop posting as many pics.

My AT&T eye insurance will be better after JAN. 1 so I'll wait to have it taken care of. .............lm

Brickyard wrote:As LM instructed, I saturated a paper towel and left it on the rough area in the sleeve for 3-5 minutes. Then i washed it in a bucket of soap water.

Results: I'm very happy to say the protruding metal has vanished! I can't see or feel it.

Now it's time to deglaze

As for the computer I have WINDSTREAM.
I retired from AT&T in 1985 and don't mind putting a bit of my retirement $$$ back to the source. .............:-). ...........lm

Piston ring gap

Post by Brickyard » Sun Nov 08, 2015 4:07 pm

My .026, .65mm feeler gauge was Very snug, and the .70mm didn't stand a chance. Now to decipher what Honda says it should be...

Honda says ".15 - .35" for "second top ring" gap!?!? I'm obviously reading wrong, but if not, I'm screwed! My left good cylinder, after deglazing, peaked at .020 or .5mm gap size. Both gaps were measured with the top ring.

Are you using a new ring or a worn one?

Those figures are 0.15-0.35mm with a repair limit of 0.8mm

Max wear is normally at the top. Try the bottom and compare the two.
