I have to give credit where it's due at least, I couldn't build anything that nice. Not that I would have that same image I'd want to build, but the builder has more skill and time than I've got. Kudos to him.

No you're definitely right - a lot of good work in that project, and certainly more than I could ever personally do. Maybe we tend to focus on the negative more than the positive, particularly when it's something 'different'. I know I've certainly been on the receiving end a number of times -- I actually had someone tell me that my wheels and tires were 'too nice for the bike', and why would I bother messing with something that was perfect to begin with.
However, when someone (particularly an industrial designer) presents their bike as though it were 'finished', and it's clear that there are issues with the bike that are not 'finished', I think it's fair game for critiquing.
I hope that the owner becomes a more contributive member of this forum.
