Looking at those 'bacon slicers' i wonder how much power it takes to turn them? With those little scoops they are actually acting as a wheel driven fan. I bet it takes a couple of HP to drive them at 70+ mph.
I think mine are just flat without the scoops.

The bike is just about done and I should have it back next week. John tells me that with the new oil pump/filter setup, I will definitely NOT have any problems with oil starvation at the top end. The oil is abundant up top, and the bike now can handle almost 3 qts of oil.
I'll be interested to see how the 'new' wheels look with the rest of the bike - John said they really 'pop', so of course I'll be posting some photos of it. Stay tuned!
