It's hard to tell for sure from your photos if the shocks are OEM with the shrouds removed, but I'd lean towards them being replacements. The OEM shocks have a lower metal shroud over the spring as well as an upper plastic shroud.

If you go to the "Restoration" forum, you'll find lots and lots of threads with photos. You can make all sorts of comparisons by looking at those. I've spent hours and hours on that forum just reading the restoration logs and looking at the pictures! I learned an awful lot about my bike by doing that.
i'm going to have to weld a new mounting point for the reverse cone megaphones, so I won't worry about the perch.

thanks for all your help.

I glanced through the carb sections of my repair manuals, but didn't find anything about vacuum ports. Do you sync these carbs with a vacuum gauge? or just eyeball it?

There is no vacuum port like on the Honda 4 cylinders.

Off to the left margin in yellow are clickable links. Click the "FAQ" then click "How do I tune my factory stock motor on my CB72/77 or CL72/77 for optimum performance?"

perfect, thanks. I was just going to order some tools to start working on this thing, and i didn't have a carb sync gauge. Glad to know I don't need one.

Sorry for all the noob questions.

Hi,

If you really want to improve your bike with an electronic ignition, you could think about this one. Since originality is not your thing, it will do everything you want and more,

http://www.elektronik-sachse.de/index_en.htm

look for Honda and then CB72/77

This ignition works and doesn't use the advancer any more, instead of that you can choose 1 out of 9 advance curves. The timing is taken from the crank instead of the cams, so camchain slap doesn't influences the timing any more, works like a charm,

Jensen,

I put one of their CA77 units on my Dream and it works great. I am going to get one of their CB77 units for my next bike build.
