be sure and re-check timing after you tighten up the points...mine tends to retard it a bit when tightened up so I set it a little advanced, tighten, recheck, loosen, set it a little more advanced, tighten, recheck, loosen, set it a little less advanced, tighten, recheck...you get the picture.

jlee - I sometimes cheat and just bend the stationary side of the points a little with needle-nose pliers to get a degree or two of timing change with the engine running (slightly change the gap without loosening the screws). Open them up to advance, close to retard.
