'65 Scrambler project. How original is this?'65 Scrambler project. How original is this?Hello everyone,
In the past year, I've been delving into restoring vintage hondas. It's all been under 100 stuff : s-90s, c70s, ct70s, z50a etc. I bought this Scrambler that was listed as a '66. Motor locked up, but now titled in my name. I took some photos that you can see on my web site. I've linked directly to the page with the photos. If you click on them, they will get bigger. http://tulsahonda.blogspot.com/2012/04/about-site.html From the VIN, it appears to be a 65 instead of a '66. Motor looks to be a different year? Motor Vin is : CL77-1046778 Neck is: CL77- 1004280 I noticed a chrome rear fender, which I don't think comes on this model year? Motor is locked up, but bottom end looked good from cam chain tensior area. I have no idea the miles ... the speedo is gunked up. It looks like the bike was originally red? Is there any difference in resale between red and black? I actually like red better, but am a student and fear that I might have to sell it within a year after I rebuild it (depends how much money I tie up in it...). I bought the bike for $400. Just looking for some pointers, and an idea if I should spend good money on the resto (all painted), or powdercoat the majority of it. I'm not sure how the frame and motor discrepancy plays out. I would also greatly appreciate if (if you look at the photos) to let me know if there are any welds were there shouldn't be, or the frame angled (or bent) in any way it shouldn't be. It looks straight to me, but wouldn't hurt to have the extra eyes. Thanks everyone!
Looks like a pretty decent early scrambler, small brakes and steel lower fork legs. Tool box and air cleaner brackets are gone, along with the air cleaners/intake pipes. late style chrome fender, missing chain guard, right side air cleaner cover, passenger pegs. Right side crankcase lower cover is off a Dream. Other than that, it looks like a pretty good find.

Re: '65 Scrambler project. How original is this? You have a nice purchase for sure.
I'd like for you to add your location to your profile so we can know where you are located as you may be surprised to find forum members are near you. ........lm
That's great to hear.
And yes, it's too bad about the motor. I''m not holding my breath that I'll find a motor with a similar vin, but that would be nice. --Mike ... when referring to the air cleaner and tool brackets, are these brackets bolted or welded on? I have a few (5 or 6) other bikes I need to complete before I can dedicate my one car garage to this scrambler. Hope to get to in by the end of the summer. Thanks
The pieces are held on by two bolts, through the frame backbone,: http://www.powersportspro.com/pages/Oem ... F14238S10A
