Cleaning clutch friction disks

Post by Husker45 » Sat Jun 16, 2012 11:57 am

Picked a cb77 bottom end for parts. It looks like it had been filled with parts cleaner. The clutch friction disks look good, but I don't know if they have any residue on them. Is there a proper way to clean the friction surfaces?

Aluminum core with disk material (don't know what that is made of). Thickness of 3.75 mm. Five disks plus five metal plates. They look like the ones I have seen on this forum with part number 22201-268-020. Thanks for reponding lm.

Those are the ones to have.
You can clean them with parts cleaner and allow them to dry in the sun.
You can wire wheel all the steel plates. ...............lm

Thanks lm. I wire wheels the disks and they look great. Can you use brake cleaner to clean the friction disks?

I've never used it but as it does vapor quickly it may not damage the neoprene.

I use normal parts cleaner. ......lm
