Need some advice on a buy

Post by clofan » Sun Feb 26, 2012 8:53 pm

I'm looking at a '63 Honda Dream 305 from a local guy. 67 pictures that show it off pretty well:

Pros:new Kenda street tires, new plugs and points, a new chain and the carb was cleaned and has a new jet kit. Electric starter was rebuilt too, and it has a good battery. Owner says it runs like a top

Cons: Could use new gaskets due to age, Transmission shifts well unless it's really hot, no turn signals, spedometer is broken. It has developed a small oil leak from around the kick starter.

Comes with a second seat (gold sparkle), the original mirrors, new clutch cable, new brake pads front and back, original turn signal switch, and a luggage rack from a different model that could be converted. It also has two sets of keys.

The guy is asking $1200. Thoughts?

IN MY PART OF THE WORLD "LOUISIANA" USA THAT WOULD BE WAY OVERPRICED. A BIKE IN THAT CONDITION WOULD SELL FOR $4-$500 MAX

That's an under-a-grand bike in my humble opinion. Way too much work necessary to make it look respectable. If you don't care how it looks, get it for $500 and ride.

I'm actually in Arkansas. Thanks for everyone's opinions so far! I might offer him lower, but I doubt he'll take anything under 1k. Maybe I should walk...

If you spend $1500 you can get a much cleaner bike that will require less from you going forward. The front fender damage alone would make me walk.

I paid $1100 for my 63. Everything works, original paint.

I'm wondering what in the world they were doing to beat the front fender that bad? I would like to see the gold glitter seat though.[/img]

Great score pknopp!

Be patient the deals are out there. I got this Dream for $2000.00 in flint MI. It sat in the sloan museum for 5 years. Needed the starter switch fixed, new seat cover, the high beam re soldered, and a ground for the rear tail light.
