try doing Ed's timing recipe again, but this time start out with 016" on the right side points and set it just on the verge of being advanced. you will probably see the left points ending up wide as well. set the left side just on the verge of being retarded. you might have a little points cam wobble and need to eliminate some of the dwell overlap inherent in this ignition. this is a trick we do on early GL1000's and I have done it on some 305's as well if all else fails. make sure to check dynamic timing when you are done and don't let the right side get over max advance.
good luck

Hi,
If you are sure that it isn't the carb adjustment, you may look at the following things :
How do your air filters look like ? clean ? or dirty ?
How about ground ? is your battery grounded properly ?
Are your points clean ?, nor burned in ?
What about the condenser ? is it good ? no sparks at the points ?
What's the color of your plugs after idling for a few minutes ?
Spark plug caps ?, are they the same (resistance) ?
Inlet and exhaust do not leak air ?

Thank everyone,
Not a lot of exhaust leak but some between where the headers meet the mufflers. I have brand new packing in there so I don't know how else I could get that to stop.
How do your air filters look like ? clean ? or dirty ? They are clean and new
How about ground ? is your battery grounded properly ? Yes
Are your points clean ?, nor burned in ? Yes, they are new
What about the condenser ? is it good ? no sparks at the points ? No sparks at points
What's the color of your plugs after idling for a few minutes ? Looks good
Spark plug caps ?, are they the same (resistance) ? I replaced them this weekend, I believe this has solved the issue. If not entirely almost. I may be able to hear some very slight grumbling as I come off the throttle but didn't have much of a chance to really test drive. Thank you.
Inlet and exhaust do not leak? What do you mean, valves? The only way I know to check that is a leak down test and I have 4% on each cylinder so I think it's good. Am I missing something?
Also, I would like to thank rrietman for that suggestion. I believe the new spark plug caps have addressed the issue but if they have not I will try that next. Once I get some extra money I will buy a strobe, I know they're nice to have on hand.
