Stiff Clutch
Stiff Clutch
Ok, so I finally got her close to roadworthy, but I'm having issues with the clutch. I have to use both hands to pull it in. I've never been on a cb77, so I don't know for sure, but this cant be right. Is there something that I should look for to fix this?
Brand new and lubed. I read spargetts post about the same thing and I think it's the cable length. I think it may be too short. Is it just like the front brake cable? I wonder if I mixed em up.cyclon36 wrote:Definitely doesn't sound right. Your clutch cable isn't looped or bent in any area is it? Does it have resistance in the release as well or is it just hard to depress? Is your cable new or used? If it's used, have you tried lubing the inside at all?
The arm on the clutch release mechanism should be below 90 degrees to horizontal so you actually pull it thru 90 to slightly past it. If the cable is too short, the arm will be much closer to vertical. This does two things. First, it greatly reduces the mechanical advantage and second sets you up to run out of travel in that you will be pulling straight up on the arm with the arm at 12 o'clock. You are basically trying to stretch it.
Pull off the side cover and have a look at the arm. That will tell you if the cable is too short or not.

Rob

I looked at it earlier and it seems to be what you are describing. I don't think the cable is long enough, but it's the same one they sell on olypen.com. 34.75 inches. I'm using Tomaselli levers though, but I think their placement is close to stock.Snakeoil wrote:The arm on the clutch release mechanism should be below 90 degrees to horizontal so you actually pull it thru 90 to slightly past it. FWIW: Last year I bought a Throttle cable for my CA77 from them and the cable housing was 1/4" longer than the one that was currently in use, but the inner "Pull" cable was the same length. End result was that the carb slide was held up (unable to bottom out) even with all adjustments set to mininum.56_oval wrote:I don't think the cable is long enough, but it's the same one they sell on olypen.com. 34.75 inches.
