Dream ignition switch key question

I picked up an Dream ignition switch with a "T" code. t plus 4 numbers. I have several "T" keys but none will fit into the switch.
Would that denote a problem with the switch or were there different types of T keys?

As I remember it the first number after the T is the key blank nunber and the last three numbers are the lock code for depth of cuts. If you have a key that has the same first number it should fit into the switch but won't turn it unless the last three match.

Thanks Fred,That explains it. None of my T keys have matching first numbers. Guess I'll start looking for the correct key.

Mike, I have 6 T9645s. Don't it just figure!

Dave,I'll keep those in mind if I can't come up with an exact match and have to do surgery on the switch.
