Hi,
Early 1961, because of the breather case.
Does your speed / tacho combination is fixed with screws in the bazel in or does it has a spring to hold it to the headlight case ?
Can you add a picture of the inner of your headlight case ? together with a picture of the downside of your speed / tacho unit ?

What year is my cb72 project?

How the speedo/tacho combo was originally fixed is unknown to me. When i bought the bike some small dismantling had already been done (and thus some parts had been lost too)...
The inside of the headlight:

And the bottom of the tacho/speedo. Perhaps this too allows you to see if it was originally fixed with screws or springs.
The metal wire above it was in the headlight too, but I assume it's something homemade rather than a genuine honda-part.

I've been reading myself a bit on the board here in order to learn more about the "early" bikes. Couldn't find a real topic dedicated to it (if there is such a topic please link to it)
But still i was able to pick up a little bit here and there.
I don't always know how relevant it is; for instance my rear seat mount is a smashed tube instead of the (later) ones with the brazed on part.
The front fender is aluminum.
The carburetors do (i think) have a round float bowl.
Maybe other detalis/the number of my bike had already placed it before these changes anyway.
@jensen; i read elsewhere here that you too are restoring an early cb72 (or perhaps it's up and running by now). What number is yours? Is it a lot apart from mine? (not numberwise of course, we can all count, but timewise)

Hi,
What a find, it's indeed an early cb72, and be very careful with that aluminum rear fender, it is a very sought for part. The headlight shows indeed that the speedo is mounted with a spring, and that's early.
frame is from the same period, and it's indeed period correct to the rest of the parts.
Yes, I'm building a CB72 1961 bike, and I have several engines for it.
