Hi,

indeed, that's just what i was suggesting a few months ago.

H
i,

The CB72 where issued until the end of 1967, at least in (western) Europe.
But I second LM, at least according issued 1967 CB72's in the US.

I've seen a tagged 1967 CB72 (wire harness), and some people say that they have seen 1968 CB72's, but I can't verify that.

The CB72 was less popular in the US, but as things are sometimes different between the US and Europe, here the CB72 was popular, until the 1968 CB250 came.

Jensen
Jerry, what does the tag on the harness say ??

I had ordered a replacement horn in about 1968 from the local dealer (FL), and received the slim version. The back section was black plastic, and the front dome was steel, painted silver (now chromed). Still have it. Regards, Chase

An interesting, but not very helpful twist to the Australian story is that different state had different success with the 250 or the 305.

IIRC, Victoria had lots of 250s and 305's were rarer and New South was the other way round.

Teazer,

The point is that a CB72 from 1967 does exists, in general, and not in a specific place in the world.
I have (but no prove) heard of a tagged 1968 CB72. Time will tell, it's out there somewhere.

While visiting Jerry Kooistra in MANNUM, AU. I saw in his shop (a shop to kill for) what I expected to be a CB77 as it had all the parts HONDA changed with the 1967 CB77 issues.
To my surprise I was told it is a CB72! WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????
Sure enough it is a CB72 with CB72E-1009XXX engine and close to matching frame number. (check the Bill Silver data on this for total issue 1965-1967)
Knowing the US didn't receive any CB72 bikes after some time in 1965 (early I presume) I see this number there in Australia.
It is the Red issue and is for sure all parts are original. IMO!
Things which I saw that HONDA added in 1967 were:
Tappet covers, tail light bracket, turn signals, one piece mufflers and handle bar grips.
Unusual things are the chrome head light rim mounts with the usual 2 flat screws and has a screw to LOWER/RAISE the beam and a parking light and replaceable HL bulb, non folding rider pegs, FLAT BARS and SLIM DESIGN HORN.
I have wondered about the seats for these CB72/77 bikes for many years and this bike sort of/may help/add to my question about them.
This bike is for sure a 1967 issue with a "FLAT SEAT" not the raised front.
I have wondered about the raised front seat since I first saw one on a CB77 many years back.
My question was/is.
IF ALL CB77 bikes after the first to get the RAISED FRONT SEAT (1034092) then "WHERE ARE THAT MANY OF THOSE SEATS TODAY"? LAST (1056432)
Were there numbers not used at the start of 1966 or 1967 and numbers were not a continuous series but some were not used at the end of the years?
Has 7981 MILES on the speedo which the MPH surprised me as AU is KPH and I was informed that AU went to METRIC after the bike was issued and the speedo is correct.
I will say it is the best unmolested example of a CB72 I've seen. .............lm
That is interesting info, and underlines the market differences between the USA and the ROTW. From the info I've gleaned so far, through I-research and The Forum, CB77s aside:

USA got
  • Lip-up seats
    Partially-folding front footpegs
    Intermediate- and raised-handlebar
    Sealed beam headlight
Few, if any, CB72s after '65/'66
    Many CLs
Europe got
  • Flat, wider dual-seats
    Flat 'bar
    Mainly fixed rider pegs
    Bosch BA20S headlight beam unit -- bulb-type
    Many CB72s
    Few, if any(?), CLs
ROTW got (market dependent)
  • Winkers -- domestic (Jap)/Canada/Germany/Holland; how about Oz?
    Flat 'bar
    Various taillight/licence plate brackets -- UK/Germany/Holland
    Various derivatives (C/CB/CBM/CL)
A lot of this info is speculative, as there's no supporting documentation -- it's undefined and inconclusive but, nevertheless, interesting (to a nerdie like me).

I'm wondering if Bill's production figures pertain to factory numbers or US imports. Any other ideas/info? All would be gratefully digested.

Hi,

European and Australian versions of the CB72 are the same in headlines, also 1967 versions.
There are a lot of CB72 '67 versions around in Europe, as I got one myself.

Flat wide dual seat, winkers (but that's depending on the country regulations), flat bars, Stanley headlight with parking light and the high / low screw (due to regulations), interchangeable H/L bulb, fixed rider pegs, winker switch on the LEFT side, dimmer switch with a neutral (lights out), one piece mufflers, carbs with powerjets, and metal shielded air filter covers (noise regulations), non folding rider pegs, crank with the later spline diameter (crank has a ball bearing replacement standard), high output rotor / generator combination, km/hour speedo tacho combination with multiple indicator bulbs.
