R side spark on CA77

Post by slopokecr » Fri Dec 26, 2008 8:32 pm

Just aquired a 1967 CA77 and was thrilled to find this site!
I am trying to get it to run and cannot get the any spark out of the right spark plug, any hints (new plug and checked connections)?
Also, is there a conversion available for electronic ignition?
Thanks!
Kent

Did you check the points? You can open and close them with the ignition on and see if you get spark. If you do get a spark, you need to adjust the points. Check the FAQ for the proper procedure.

Thanks!
Got spark on both sides! Carb/jets thoroughly clean and in-line fuel filter installed. Points set.
Wont Fire!
Could it be that starter is not engaging--will it make a difference if I Kick it? How do I test if starter is operating/engaging?
thanks, Kent

Kick it and then fix the starter later.
Be like a mechanic and get parts and instruction books and take a few things off and see how things work. ...........lm

Loud Mouse is the master, and great advice. You need compression, fuel and a spark. Kick it over, if it will not start check the plugs to see if they are wet or dry. The points can be tricky and take some time to set correctly. If you can get them to work exactly like the procedure in the FAQ, it will work. It takes some time and fine adjustments to get them right.

On your starter, first check to see if your solenoid is working. You should hear a click when you press the starter button. If this is working right, you can remove the starter and bench test it. Put a 12 volt source on it and it should spin. If not, open it up and check the brushes and clean the contacts on the armature. If you have not done this before, I would be good to get a good maintenance manual as LM suggests.

I have ordered manual(s) and look forward to recieving them. In the FAQ section, the instructions are for dual carb/ points. Mine has single carb and one set points. Are procedures and point gap the same ? Also, is air screw base setting 1 and 1/8th out just like dual carb model?
thanks! Kent
