CLUTCH PROBLEM

Post by ryan_siefrin » Tue Aug 09, 2005 10:51 am

hello everyone,

Well everytime my ca77 sits for a while it does this thing where the first time i go from nutral to first to take off it still grabs even when the cluch lever is pulled in fully. the bike lunges forward and dies. I"ve gotten quite used to it so it's probably not dangerous to me. Hoever i was wondering if anyone would know what this problem stems from and if it is harmful fo the normal operation of the motorcycle. this only really happens when the bike has sat for a week +

thanks,

Hi Ryan, Have you replaced the friction discs or are they the original ones? If it works ok after you have ridden it awhile I would think it isn't an adjustment issue. I replaced mine in my CB because it was grabbing when you engaged it.It made all the difference.................then I blew 2nd gear. Steve

yeah, except for the carb i haven't touched anything on the eingine or transmission. It rides fine after this first time. Now that i think about it it some times slips out of gear when i'm ridding it. This could stem form this problem? HM, i guess it doesn't happen very often though.

Acouple of ?'s on clutch adj and replacement. I replaced friction disks on one clutch pack and the first disk to go on that is held on behind steel plate and spring seems to have lots of drag. Is this normal since it is new? Next ? is on another motor that had seized clutch I took it apart and cleaned both steel and friction disks and clutch still slips when I get the rpm's jacked up. Is this due to needing new disks. I pretty sure clutch is adjusted o.k.

Fly, #1, I dont think I would worry about the drag between the 1st disc and the housing surface, as you know they operate in oil and it would be hard to judge what is alot and what is not when you have it out on the bench. # 2, If you adjustment is OK then I sure would suspect the discs as being the problem. Especially knowing the history of them. Good luck and let us know how you come out,Steve

I have the same problem with mine.
My 305 sat for a couple years before I bought it, now the clutch doesn't engage no matter waht the cable adjustment is.

question for peeps who replaced their clutch plates:

Do you order them through Honda, or is there an affordable after-market source on the web somewhere?
