305 crank rebuild question

Post by Nick » Mon May 26, 2025 5:53 pm

At the center of the crankpin there is a pressed-in plug. Should that plug be drilled out before pressing the crank apart?

Have a look here: viewtopic.php?t=7642947. G-Man has contributed a lot of other useful stuff so you might find something in a search of his other postings. I did a DuckDuckGo search using "pressing honda motorcycle crankshaft" and lots of information came up.

I strongly doubt that drilling is part of doing this and getting new crankpins to replace the drilled ones is nearly impossible. Be sure that you can true it after reassembly. I saw it done once. It involved a jig to help measure runout and a big copper hammer but there may be other ways.
