Gasket Sealant

If all goes well, I'll be reassembling my 305 motor this weekend. Few gaskets, prints, seals etc all around.

I see lots of different sealants ranging from paste to spray. Opinions or preferences?

Hondabond or Yamahabond 4 on the crankcase halves. Every other gasket assembled without sealant.

Really .... no sealant on gasketed assemblies. That's suprising. Guess this is my I work on my motor out of necessity rather than pleasure.

Gaskets are there to do the sealing. Putting sealant on them just makes them difficult to get off when you take the engine apart next time.

Nice clean, flat surfaces and quality gaskets are enough.

Some of the gaskets I removed came off with no problem. Others were fishting me every inch of the way. One took every tool in my box to remove.

On gaskets I often use a smear of grease on both faces, it helps hold the gasket and align itself if needed during tightening it also stops the gasket sticking when disassembling.

I have always soaked the fiber gaskets in oil then lightly wipe them off before installing.
