Help removing cylinder

Hello. It’s my first time inside the 305 engine and I am following the Clymer repair manual. I’ve removed the head and am working on removing the cylinder for bore inspection. The manual says the cylinder lifts straight off after head removal. I cannot get it to budge. Any thoughts? Does the case need to split first? Are there screws up into the cylinder?

Secondly if you have any comments on piston replacement and rebore instead of just rings I’d be open to listening.

If you have got the head off then the barrel should just lift off but, usually it's stuck by the gasket and any sealant that has been used. If the Pistons move in the bores then it is just stuck but, if you can't turn the engine over then you are in for all sorts of fun and games.

Thank you. Pistons move freely, I guess it’s just stuck in there then! I just wanted to ask before I got too bulky with it. Thanks!

There are a couple of places where you can get a lever in without risking breaking a fin.

Thank you both for the input! I was able to get it off with some well positioned deadblow swings. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't battling something else...on to the next step...
