Bill

You've got me again! You have to enlarge the openings in the crankcases to get the bigger liners in there. The barrels, when bored out a little, will accept the CB750 liners.

I was thinking that you could replace the bigger bore jugs with standard ones if you decided you didn't like it.

Just shows what 'thinking aloud' does for you!

I recall seeing some posts where one of the member fitted some flat top pistons in a Dream engine and thought that they would create quite a nice combustion chamber shape. CB750 pistons (61mm I think) are pretty flat on top but I'm not sure what the gudgeon pin diameter is.

I'm still looking at a GSX 250 head (8-valve) for my cafe racer project. How about an 8-valve Dream?

8-valve Deam

I think you are starting to get into the Hi-po range with 8 valves, but it is very intriguing, nonetheless. I can't wait to hear how that one works.

Awesome info guy's, great help. As mentioned before, I'm not after any real HP gain. I thought that with a little head work for better flow and a cam/carb set up I would end up with a great sounding reliable ride. If better low end torque is achieved, well that's a bonus. I will now look at sourcing a CL carb and cam to suit and then Suss out the exhaust to suit. Of all places, there is a company here in Australia that makes replica mufflers of the originals. These may be able to be tuned to the mods I'm looking at.
This is fun!
Cheers,
Scott.

I've got some of the mufflers from Overlander. I can send pics if you like. They have fixed internal baffles but otherwise a really good match for the originals.

I take it that a CL head will not bolt straight on as this has not been mentioned. As you can probably tell, my knowledge is very limited at the moment! I will take more pics over the weekend on a better camera and email them to myself from another laptop and try and post. Frustrating that an ipad doesn't have a USB connection. Did a search and found that the camera in it is less than 1 meg!!! Lot of dicking around, but this my only computer.
Thank's again everyone, and will keep you up to date as things progress.
Cheers,
Scott.

CL Head

Post by conbs » Fri Nov 09, 2012 12:36 am

CL head will bolt on, but the carbs are blocked by the frame. You would need to build some manifold/spacers to move them further out on each side. I think I recall reading a post that it had been done before, but I am not certain. Seems like a lot of work.

Would you be talking about CL 305 or 350 carb and cam. May be a stupid question, but worth asking.
Cheers,
Scott.
