305 crank rebuild service??

Post by Nick » Tue May 27, 2025 5:17 pm

Question 1: Is there anyone out there who rebuilds 305 cranks? I'm in Hawaii and there's certainly no one here!

2. Are rods, crankpins and bearings available? From what I've read, not so much, and it seems rods that can be used need a fair amount of work Does someone offer rod kits using the modified rods?
I have access to a press and have rebuilt many singles cranks

A rebuild will no doubt be expensive, especially if you have to ship 20 kg of steel overseas. Perhaps replacing it would be better. I found a link to some used crank assemblies. Note that you need to get one that matches the model as the C77, CB77 and CL77 are all at least a bit different. I think that the equivalent XX72 part will work.

It's worth a better search but the problem will be knowing whether the part is serviceable. Rust is always a bad sign.

Good luck.

Thanks, I have a complete Scrambler/Superhawk engine (not sure which yet) which I'll strip down to see if any of the crank bits or pistons are usable. However, it's also been sitting for many years....
I also have a friend in Japan who races them and will enquire if any bits are to be found there. I'll ask him if complete cranks are still available and for how much.....
Tip from Japan: For racing, use a Yamaha XS650 cam chain.
