CB125S

I have a 1980 CB125S. Got it running but am having a problem shifting into 4th and 5th gear. What would the most common shift problem be? Gearshift drum/gearshift forks...... Thanks Mike

No takers--- I currently am rebuilding a 73 motor to replace the 80. Learning alot about trannys. The 73 had 2 bad gears - leaking valves and a beat up piston. Got the valves done-tranny ready to reassemble and am waiting on rings for the new piston. I am going to swap it out wehn I get it back together and then tear into the 80. Didn't want to split the engine but it's the only way for tranny problems. Just have to make sure all the washers are in the righ place. Going through the 73 again today just to make sure before buttoning it up. I know this isn't a twin and is probably looked on in a bad light but I am still a part of the family... Maybe a bastard son..... It is a kick to work on though! Merry Christmas everyone:)

They are a great little bike...I have an S90 and used to have a perfect 1972 CL100. It was fun to ride but I had 4 bikes and not enough room so I sold it. The 100's and 125's are very similiar and are great for around town riding. Please post some pics of your bike. Singles are alot of fun! Tim

Yes, I must admit that the older I get the more lustfully I look at the little singles. There is a rider who attends the Motogiros out here who has a couple of pristine 125 singles in full cafe dress that are just gorgeous little jewels. He is grandfathered in since he rode in the first giro and is allowed to ride his post 1968 125's. I'm glad he is.

regards,
Rob

That would be Harry Costello.
The nicest grumpy old man you'll ever meet.
His campfire stories about Moto Giro got me interested in obtaining a 305 SuperHawk, the first real
motorcycle I ever rode, way back when. Started with the Spring 2010 Giro. Been smiling ever since.
AFAIK he has ridden EVERY Moto Giro East event since 2005 on those singles.
They are fairly bullet proof. I rode enduros on an XL125 in the 70's and never had an issue. Rev until the valves float, then shift. (I'm 220 lbs with gear).
Cheers!
Doug

Never was introduced to him. Tall guy, white hair in a ponytail. No smile... ever. I've been doing the giros since that spring 2010 event as well. Missed the fall event last year due to a conflict. Made them both this year. I guess we'll have to try and hook up in the spring if you go. I'll be there. Might be on my new CB160 if I get time to get it ready.

regards,
Rob
