I found something to help pitted and scratched chrome. It's called rub n buff. This stuff is a conglomeration of wax and silver paint that you can rub over chrome and it fills in the pits and scratches.

My chrome front suspension of my Dream had some pretty deep road rash, rubbed it in and the scratches now look very presentable. You can't tell that they are there unless you closely eyeball it.

It comes in a half ounce tube. Around $3.00. Very little goes a long way. I found it at a crafts store by the name of Michaels.
