Grandpa's 1964 Honda Dream

My grandfather saw Elvis ride this bike in 'Roustabout', and decided he had to have one. He rode it for a while, then for an unknown reason, it stopped running, and was put off to the side. Years went by and my grandfather picked up another bike, and this fell to the side (like many projects he started). He sold it to a friend of the family who was going to get it going again, who then had a daughter, and again this project was put to the side. He called me about a week ago to ask me if I wanted it. Of course I jumped at the opportunity. This is my first motorcycle, and first major project.
My grandfather has since passed away, so this is a bit of a memorial piece. I want to restore it as close to 1964 showroom floor as I can get.
So this is the canvas I'm starting with.

Welcome, Mike! You're in good company! There is wealth of experience and skill here. And, lots of nice folks.

It looks to be mostly there. And it's straight. You have great potential in that bike!

fun project. turns over nicely. I'd be tempted to clean the carb and intake etc and see how it runs!!!

My first goal is to look over the wiring, and make sure that is sound.
The gas tank is pretty rusty inside, so I have salt and vinegar to clean that out as I'm looking at the wiring.
Then, some new fluid all around, and try to get her to fire.
Gonna need a bunch of stuff, but I want to Nicole and dime it.

Decided that while the vinegar sat in the gas tank to clean that out, I would treat apart the carb and clean that up. I think I may have found the reason it wasn't running.

There was so much corrosion in the area where the floats are, I couldn't find landmarks. Popped the are one in the driveway, and it was completely full of the white powder. I'm guess from this and the rust in the tank, a little water got in.
I think I may just buy a replacement event kit for all the internals. [/url]
