41 degrees today but sunny so... out came the scrambler for more break-in miles. I only managed 10 or so but it is really running great. I varied the speed, didn't lug it or didn't over rev it. Every time I run her , she gets spunkier!
No leaks
No smoke!
I was a bit apprehensive about running with the lites on..... Previously I had installed an xs400 headlite with a 35/35W bulb and then upgraded to a modern Onan style rectifier regulator. So today I mounted a digital voltmeter in a handmade polished bracket. It runs 12.3- 12.8 volts all the time, with lites on. I think I'll keep it on and monitor it to see how she does!
The pic was taken after I had been messing with it and Drew it down a bit. I don't leave the key on and overheat the coils, to be sure, but these batteries are kinda small on the scrambler!

The stator cover is good enough for the girls I go with..
I wet sanded with 320 and ran it on my buffer..
I wouldn't want it to be perfect cause the rest all sucks lol.
I think it's pretty darn Nice.. I left the dent in. Character.

Thanks Loud Mouse
This is great now. I put 25-30 miles on her yesterday. Still getting oil out the breather, but only on long uphills. If I ride it easy on level at 60 mph there's no oil , so I'm going to run it in and see what gives!!!

Like you said... the dings give it character! HAHA!! I have my FIRST motorcycle still. I have a Honda CB160 that has small dings in the chrome tank covers and also a ding/gouge in the side of the engine covers as well. All made by ME back in 1972-1975 while riding it through the dirt trails. Yep, fell a few (hundred) times and came back with bent and twisted shifter levers, brake pedals, and clutch/brake handles. But... when I restored it (to rider quality) I left in ALL the dings in my covers albeit polished covers like yours. Glad to hear your making out pretty good with your 305!
Jim

Now working/riding on my 1965 CA77 Dream...

Thanks Jim. I just went for another 20 miles run in on the motor.
It's great. Now I'll be polishing up the hubs and repainting the forks, when I get around to replacing the fork seals. Maybe gaitors too. They are cracked bad, but I don't want to to give up the patina look...
