My Baby Dream

Post by jdbenly » Mon Sep 15, 2008 7:45 pm

I know this is not a bike for the 305 forum, but it's close, so bear with me, I was looking for a "hobby" to keep out of my wife's hair, so I went to the local bike shop to see what he had that might interest me. I should tell you I have never worked on a motor bike before, but have repaired a number of mopeds. I asked the guy at the bike shop what he had. He told me that upstairs in the old barn that I would find some old bikes in the far corner. I crawled over a number of scrap bikes and found 5 CA150's in pieces. There were 5 frames and only 1 engine and many many pieces. I bought the whole lot, and took them home and got down to business. I took all the restorable pieces and put them in pile A. The rest in pile B. I then bead blasted frame and all sheet metal including engine. Painted engine silver and high temp black. Then finished with clear coat. Frame was undercoated then finished with recreational white. Exhaust system and wheels needed to be rechromed, but I was on a very limited budget, so I painted them.
I took a compression test on engine and it within spec's so I overhauled carb, did a tune up and set the valves. I could give more details, but i'll leave it at that. I took the bike when completed to the local show and shine, and got peoples choice award. This year I got the mayors award. I will try and attach pictures. My CA78 resto is almost complete. I will post story and pic's in this forum later.

I think you're welcome to the forum along with that little gem, jd. No-one kicks sand in the face of a '60s Honda owner here!

I had a lovely little black CA95 (150cc touring) 'baby Dream' back in the '70s which, I guess, is more or less the same machine? There were C (flat, tin-clad handlbar) and CA (raised American cruiser 'bar) models with 92 (125cc) and 95 motors. I think they sort of partnered the likes of the Honda Benly CB93 and the CB160 (mini Superhawk?).

With regards to the pics: if you have MS Office 2003 use MS Office Picture Manager to open the pics and then compress them.
  • Open the folder where the pics are stored
    rt click on one
choose Properties and under the General tab (if it states Opens with Windows Picture & Fax Viewer) click Change (see attached screenshot)
Choose program as Microsoft Office Picture Manager
The next time you open a photo
  • click on Picture (on the menu bar)
    choose Compress Pictures...
Click to dot Documents in the r/h pane and click OK
You can choose Crop from here too and lop off unwanted areas.

It will probably ask you to Save Changes or Create File; if you want to keep the original filesize (for printing/quality purposes) then it's best to Copy/Paste the pic and work on the copy.
