Mac-I was having trouble with my CA77 motor shifting from first to second when I first got it on the road until it warmed-up.It would actually get stuck and shifter would not move.I finally had pulled the engine and with LM's help by phone did what you did and split the case and tore everything out and could really not find anything that was causing it and put it back together.I had another engine and just thru it in.Have yet to try the one that stuck again.Best bet may be just to button it up and give it a try.It may work fine.Joe

I believe that I found out what was causing this shifting problem... we'll se tomorrow... As I was putting everything back together I noticed that the shift fork that turns the drum gear had some interesting wear... upon further inspection I noticed that the bottom of the contact points were worn of at 45 deg angles causing it not to push the drum gear quite as far as it should and then would catch on it's return... I've found a new one and it arrived today... we'll see how it goes... I'll post pics tomorrow of everything... also if anyone else has seen this or has useful info please let me know....

Thanks
