Scott here from Melbourne Australia. A year ago I was looking at a car that my sons child care teacher was selling when I noticed and old bike engine in a plastic tub in the carport. Didn't think much of it and let it slide. A few months later I asked about it when picking up my son and she said that her hubby never throws anything out. The next day when I saw her she ran to me and the look in her eyes led me to believe there was good news coming. She had asked hubby about it and he said, " yeah, tell Scott that goes with the bike in the shed, why, does he want it?" BLOODY OATH I DO!!! The next weekend he had it set up in his carport for me to have a look at. The bike was complete, and the motor I had seen was a spare. So now things got interesting. The complete bike came with spare motor, swing arm, controls, wheels, seat plus a tea chest of other parts. He and his brother both had dreams for years, and when his brother dropped his they stripped all the good parts to reuse one day. Eventually the good dream was retired and everything grouped together for a rainy day. This day was my birthday and they didn't want to put it all back, so $100 later and a lend of his trailer for the one block trip home, all were happy. With the help of the Bill Silver CD and this forum, the wheels should turn again. The pic I have attached is taken with my iPad so the quality is pretty bad. I swear a potato would take a better snap.

That frame number is the giveaway - 1960. Your picture is pretty bad but it looks like your tank is from a later bike. Early C72 tanks had a kind of bug-eye look where the tank badges fit. I would have expected a 1960 bike to have pressed-steel handlebars too. I have a 1960 C72 with similar frame number and a 1960 C77 which has a different tank. The 'spare' motor is probably the 1960 one and should have a breather tower at the back of the crankcase. My 1960 C72 has the frame number C72-60-25966. Where are you located? They do. Someone's ether re-stamped a 1960 frame number onto a later frame or rebuilt a 1960 bike with later parts. Definitely an early style frame number, though. Cheers for the new info, it really helps. The bloke I picked it up from purchased the bike as is. It does appear to be an early bike updated with newer parts. The spare engine is numbered C77E 1006202. It's leads me to believe it is not the original donk as it is a 7 digit code.........I think?
The frame number has not been tampered with so that appears to be legit. So all in all, there really isn't much original about this bike. So now comes the decision on the road to go down. Trying to find an original engine to suit would be almost impossible here, as it could be a 250/305 unit. Then there's all the other bits, including tank, rear suspension holder things, Handel bars, seat, and the list goes on. So I think I will stick with the original plan which is a refurb of the unit I have with a two tone 60's paint scheme and now a CL carb and cam with head clean up. Nothing that can't be returned back to standard. As for the other bike you spotted, I think I will post a pic and see who guesses correctly. Cheers, Scott.
