please help guys
bought a beautifully restored cb77
everything new/redone
but
have i guess a dead short when engine running
kills battery in 5 miles ballistic
white wire to switch was drain
it seemed to go nowhere , maybe kill switch that my bike doesnt have
disconnected it
thought all was well
noticed a few minutes ago that if i turn key to taillight position maybe 1 in 10 times
the engine starter tries to engage ever so slightly as the key turns from the middle position right to taillight only
but never from when turning from full left off to 1st own
switch seems to ever so briefly go to ground as though you mashed starter button
do not have a battery drain with engine not running
but
a 5 minute drive will kill battery
i can start it 30 times (instantly cranks, elec ignition)in the shop letting it idle each time
no problem
just cant go anywhere
sorry to ramble
just kinda overwhelmed right now
edit................
now im really depressed $270 for a switch
tell me it aint the switch
bad switch/??

disconected temporarily the yellow wire in the headlight bucket anddavomoto wrote:Switch may be bad, but sounds like you have a charging system issue! Has the rectifier been upgraded to a modern type? Have you checked voltage with the bike running? Search "charging system" and check the "all words" box , on thgis site, and you will find a ton of info!
Davo
cranking with kick starter while waiting on switch
charging system working fine
battery not instantly draining anymore

well
i was wrong
6 mile ride in the country turned into a 6 mile walk home
rectifier bad
12ish volts in on yellow and brown
nothing out to switch
so
installed Oregon Motorcycle rectifier
getting 18,19 volts out to CH on switch
battery posts checks 12.75
did not expect that
but
battery tests 12.75 or there abouts runni9ng
guess im good
fixed right
not
drive around my shop facility area 3 miles lights on
goes dead
battery dead
getting mighty regular
so
19 volts out is in improvement over 0 volts from rectifier right
i expected 12ish
stillthinking switch is bad also
why do i now have 19 volts into switch and 12.75 on switch batt terminal
lights reading 12 also
its like all the power in switch is backfeeding from battery
any thoughts please guys
