correct spoke and nipple plating?

Post by big-b » Tue Oct 28, 2014 8:44 am

What is the closest to original look for spoke and nipple plating? I have a bunch of stuff being cadmium plated, i eas thinking that would be ok for the spokes, but yhe nipples have a yellowish look.

Spokes were originally zinc plated with clear passivation. (silver finish)

Nipples were either ...

steel with zinc plating and gold passivation OR
brass with nickel plating

Honda didn't use cadmium plating as far as I know. The stuff that most people call cad plating is actually gold passivated zinc.

Brian, if the nipples have a yellowish tint to them, it is more likely that the plating is wearing thin and the brass is showing through.
