TIRING TIRE TRACK.

Post by CJN » Wed Feb 20, 2008 1:36 am

I am getting tired of looking for tires. I'm getting eye strain from the computer screen.

Anybody have an inside track on tires for the CB77? I am restoring a rider, not a show piece.......so safety and comfort matter more to me than aesthetics. I have standard 3.00 front and 3.25 rear to replace. I'd like a matched brand, if possible....but I'd like to do it without dropping a gangster roll. Anybody have first-hand experience with Avon Venom Road Riders? They were recommended by a member here......but I haven't found them for sale in correct size. Continental Conti City tires? Continental TK22s? Cougar tires? Are 80/90-18 front and 90/90-18 rear good replacement sized for the standard rims? I have found links verifying that these brands make correct replacement sizes....but I can't find anybody willing to sell them to me. Maddening. I am shooting blanks. Anybody have a bone to throw !? THANKS for info in advance!

Kind Regards, Chris

Cris, try these guys. I am using am 26 road riders that I purchased from them Around $65 each + shipping. I am runnning a 90/90 front , and a 100/90 rear. Call them if you want the smaller sizes, they can probably get them for you

Thank you, Davomoto. First and foremost....NICE LOOKING RIDE! Did you do all the work?!

I checked the Motorcycle Pro Shop website. Looks good. I actually found the Avon tires on an Amazon seller for just a few bucks cheaper. ($74.45 vs. 75.50/tire, with ship and handling) That seller is Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse, in case anyone else is watching...and interested. But- I assume Motorcycle Pro Shops customer service is good.......so I will go with them, at your request. Just to clarify- These tires are slightly larger tan the 3.00 and 3.25-18 tires? You mentioned that you ride a wider rim. Are your Honda manufactured?!

THANK YOU for yet another response. You are a big help to me, My Brother.

Kind Regards, Chris

Chris, the actual stock tire sizes are 2.75 front, and 3.00 rear. I am running Borranni aluminum shouldered rims, WM2 front, and WM3 rear. Stock are WM1 front, and WM2 rear. Yes, I did all of the work myself. It is a work in progress, as I still have some changes to make. I want to add a front fender, move the seat more rearwards, and a few other little items.

Another thought....

Wheelhouse Tyres in Birmingham, UK (www.wheelhousetyres.com), who are vintage tire specialists (geez, should I get a kickback from these guys or what?!).

Dunlop K82's in 2.75x18 front and 3.00x18 rear....fantastic!

CB77 tires

Post by joew616 » Fri Aug 08, 2008 6:59 am

I believe in avoiding the oversized ties and staying with the stock sizes - 2.75 & 3.00. I have ordered Cheng Shin tires in the correct size from JC Whitney in Chicago, and they were perfect, fit and look.

Good luck.

The Cheng Shin "Hi-Max" tires come in the right sizes and are a very good tire for the money. They have good traction in wet weather and handle very well but they wear fast so won't last long. Stay away from the C-S "Marquis" variety. Those perform pretty poorly in the wet and don't handle nearly as nice as the Hi-Max.
