Re-chroming the fuel tank side covers...
So, the chrome on my fuel tank side covers is not up to par with the rest of the bike. Pitted below the rubber knee pads and scratched above them. What is the likelihood of success in having them blasted and re-chromed? Any issues with the makeup of the metal that would lead to a less than perfect finish?

Don't blast them. The plating shop will strip it themselves using chemical baths/reverse plating methods to strip the chromium/nickel. Just degrease it. Chrome plating is generally similar to other things, you get what you pay for.
Look for a reputable shop in your area. Ask for some member input into good platers in CA near you.

Thanks. You think that'll work with my "guel" tank? Just noticed that typo!Hoosier Tom wrote:Don't blast them. How do you remove the crome side covers of the fuel tank
I am new here, and didn't know you could remove the crome cover off the side of the fuel tanks.
If this is possible ,how do you go about it?
This is my first restore.

Remove the emblem. There is a retainment bolt under it. Then they slide off forward.
