I'm looking at buying a blasting cabinet and paint gun

Post by Gun » Wed Aug 05, 2009 6:08 pm

anyone have any recommendations, the spray can job I did on my CB77 has that orange peel look, and it's just not going to cut it. I want to make the bike really sharp looking (finally convinced the girlfriend to let me save up some money to send my engine off for repair, hopefully LM)
and I'd like to blast/paint a few of the bikes i have.
Being that i'm just beginning I wont want anything fancy, (going to use my 96 vulcan as a practice canvas this winter). Just something capable of doing a good job. I contemplated building my own blasting cabinet so i could fit the whole cb77 frame in there, but that seems like it might get pricey, maybe i'll wait on that large of a cabinet.

rambling as usual.
any input?

Alot depends on the size of your Compressor. I am currently building a Cabinet out of an old freezer and using a cheap siphon feed hopper from HF. It will probably be two weeks before I am done. I will let you know the results.

wow, that's pretty nifty. I'd love to see some pics when you get done.

I'll be buying a new compressor for this project.

I think I've got about $20 into this cabinet including the gun. Works great. Harbor freight sells the blasting gloves for $6.99, so you can pretty much make any large sealable container into a blast cabinet.

And don't laugh at the construction adhesive -- I should have used silicone but I had an open tube of adhesive so I used that. Saved $3.00!

Guys,
Tractor supply company has a benchtop blasting cabinet on sale this week for $99 and that includes the gun and everything. I just bought mine (right before I found the one at TSC) from ebay. Here is a link to one I just found for $59 + 21 shipping.

I was hoping for something that i could weasel the cb77 frame into :p

but this would be a great start.

I finally got the 'big bike' bug out of my system, for a while at least. Now i'm focused back on the cb77... BUT was just informed by my boss that i'm getting transfered to walla walla washington on jan 1st.
so i'm going to wait until after i move to get rolling on the project again (need to save money).

I've put my vulcan up for sale, going to try and nab 3000 out of it... we'll see.
if i do. 1000 or so of that will be heading towards the engine being done over.
