FYI Scrambler Paint Job

Post by britman » Thu Nov 27, 2008 11:08 am

Here are some shots of the paint job on my 67 Scrambler project. As you can see I have motorcycle scattered everywhere. I have found the longer rattle can paint cures the better off you are. It still will be a couple of months before final compounding, clear coats, and it all gets bolted back together so it should be good to go. The paint combination is

Dupli-Color T191-Ultra Silver M from Pep Boys
Rustoleum Painters Touch Apple Red from Home Depot. (I have to thank Splitenz from a June post in 2007 on the thread Honda Red Paint for finding that one.)

Just for info if anyone else is interested in an inexpensive looks good from a distance paint job.

The center stand should be red also and actually looks better red on this bike rather than the black. ...............lm

Im,

I believe you, that's what extra paint is for. I should have used this point of reference to begin with. I was distracted by the passengers however. Thanks Ed.

You say the bike is a 1967 but I see earlier (1965) parts also.
Do you have steel or aluminum sliders? (looks like a 6 bolt fender 1966+). .......lm

Im,

I believe you, that's what extra paint is for. How about the bottom fork legs? They are next on the list.

Ed,

Frame number CL77-1029226
Motor Number CLE-1029228
Type11 Forks-Aluminum Sliders
Titled as a 1967?

I bought three of them in a group and parts were exchnaged here and there to make a complete bike. Here is a shot before the tear down. It is kind of like the Johnny Cash song about stealing factory parts over the years to make a Cadillac. I know it will never win a show but she is going to be my 67 anyway. The year I graduated High School.

Britman, I forgot all about the apple red! I painted a C100 with it about 5 years ago, great looking color. I'm doing a quick / inexpensive rider resto on a CL77, and have started painting with the apple red. I will top coat with an automotive clear urethane to give it some chip resistance and a healthy shine. One question, is the footpeg bar, and footpegs black, or red?
