Paint colors for 1966 CB77
Paint colors for 1966 CB77I'm finishing up the painting on my black CB77. The fenders have already been painted gloss silver. Below is a chart of my understanding of what the colors/finishes of other parts should be.
Confirmation or corrections would be greatly appreciated.
#2 should be "as cast", like the upper and lower engine cases. #3, #4, and #8 have been more of a semi-gloss silver on the new CB77's I've owned. I have seen some gloss silver horns, but not positive if that was the original finish. #9 should be dull silver. I did purchase a really ancient CB72/77 starter from a Honda dealer that was closing, and it was black, but had no manufacturer's tag riveted on. Honda box, but possibly a rebuilt unit. The taillight bracket should also be gloss silver. Regards, Chase
Yes, a bit of a controversial point (paint?) on the tail light bracket. My late 1962 CB77 had a silver bracket on a black bike. My 1964 CB77 had a black bracket on a black bike. A 1966 black bike that I did a semi-restoration on had a silver bracket on a black bike. I've seen both on bikes that I've worked on and acquired. If you check the marketplace and gallery forums on this site, you'll find both. Checking back in the Paint forum here, LM believes the brackets on US CB77's were silver, except for a few black bikes that had black brackets. Perhaps either is acceptable? Regards, Chase
My CB77 is a '66 (CB77-1042xxx) sold n Canada and I know that it has original colours. The starter is entirely dull silver and the tail light bracket is gloss black. Honda (and many other companies) do not distinguish between Canada and the country south of the border so these colours should match your bike as well. That being said, Honda would make undocumented production changes so there my be some disagreement from others.
