Speedometer Indicator

Post by Deke » Fri Aug 04, 2006 5:47 pm

:?: I recently acquired what I believe to be a 64 305 Dream (CA77) without paperwork. Every photo I have seen of a Dream speedometer has an indicator light in the center, between 40 and 60 MPH. Mine has no indicator, or provision for one. It has the indicator on top of the headlight housing. Is this common? Is it limited to certain year(s)?

I have one like that also on the shelf. They were changed around 64'/65' to the ones with indicator. What is the VIN#?We can help determine year.If it has seven digits it is a 65' or later. That's when Honda went to the seven digit VIN#.Joe

I will have to go where the bike is stored to get the VIN number. I will post it here. I have seen a lot of pictures of earlier CA77's like 1962 and 1963's with the indicator in the speedometer. This is well before 1965 change over. The only one without the indicator that I have seen a picture of is a 1959. I'm not doubting your word, however I'm puzzeled as to why the speedometer with the missing indicator seems to be less common.

Are the pictures you saw of restored bikes or originals?Maybe they were changed out at one time.I am just going on what others have told me.There were two different manufacturers also.Joe

Isn't there 2 indicators. The one in the headlamp housing is for Neutral. The one on the spedo itself is for highbeam, or am I on drugs.

I believe that you are correct. My Dream has the the indicator in the headlight housing, but no indicator in the speedometer.

I have seen 3 different MPH speedos on these bikes. The Nippon Seiki's seem to come with and without the high beam indicator. I am not sure why. The wiring diagram actually refers to the headlight circuits as 'main' and 'dimmer' so I guess it is actually a 'main' indicator light. My '64 has the indicator and I am pretty sure it is the original. All the Fuji Electrics that I have seen have the high beam indicator. I haven't seen a wiring diagram that includes the indicator light though. I know, this doesn't help.
