ca78 air filter

I have a 1965 305 cc CA78 bike and when I got it there was no air filter on it. There was a spring attached to the carb that is cone shaped. That is all that is there. Please help me figure out what I need.

A "cone" shaped" spring on the carb? Where was it on the carb?

The spring looks to be number 3 on the parts diagram but there is no rubber coating it. I guess I will need a new one and an air filter box to get it back in shape.
