Okay; THIS time I don't know what I have

Post by Dr. Frankenstein » Thu Nov 18, 2010 9:32 am

Hi all;

I recently picked up what I thought was a 1963 CA77E 305, as that is the engine that came with it, but not attached to the frame...I noticed the shorter rear shock mounts on the rear fender are those of (apparently) a 1963 CA95, which supposedly had a 160cc engine...so as you may have guessed, what do I have?

*I* think I have a CA95 that somebody switched out the engine on, but I don't know for sure...the engine IS a CA77E 212xxx ( I don't have the number in front of me...), and I haven't checked the frame number yet...but my question is, would a CA77E engine and a CA95 gas tank work/fit on it?

I'll send more as I get it, but I was just curious about opinions..

LM: Yeah, I figure the frame number will tell me more - but I still need to round up a gas tank for it (doesn't have to be 'correct', but I hope it will fit), and somewhere along the way somebody crunched it and brazed the front fender...needs a chain guard, too...

And based on Gun's comments I'll bet this bike is pieced together..as I said, I'll try to find out more...but would a CA95 gas tank fit the mounts on a CA77?

The tank won't fit. Well at least its not a bolt on, anything will eventually fit.

What side is the rear wheel sprocket on? Dreams are on the right, Benly 150 on the left.

Okay, here's what I found: the frame # is CA77 - 22812
The engine number is CA77E - 212872

The drive sprockets are located on the right side

BUT: it has the shorter CA95-ish rear shock supports, and no 'ghost' image or screw holes or whatever to indicate it ever had the longer shock supports...it looks like a ca95 rear fender..

So it looks like I have a CA77E with CA95 shock supports....??

Somebody along the way also painted the bike another shade of blue OVER the factory blue, and also painted the chrome headlight ring and shock supports silver - I have no idea why...maybe they were going for an 'anodized' look...

Note: somewhere along the way it also got crunched - there is evidence of brazing on the front fender, and the rear fender is slightly bowed out, as if something ran into it from behind...perhaps somebody replaced the rear fender with a CA95??

If I could find an easy way to post pics on here I would, but I'm an idiot when it comes to stuff like that, and besides, don't I have to post the pics to another site first and then link them in rather than uploading them directly to here...?? If anybody has any step-by-step tips for putting tem on here
(and I do mean Step-By-Step), I'd appreciate it!

Or is there already a post on that....?
